One of Laude San Pedro’s students, Ana Maria Muñoz El Haj, will be spending two weeks in Mexico this spring after winning a writing competition organised by International Schools Partnership (ISP). The competition required students to write a 500 word essay with the title “My World, My Responsibility, My Future”. The shortlisted entries were then read by the competition judge, Anita Gleave, Director of Operations of ISP, who selected Ana Maria’s essay as the winning piece.
Ana Maria’s essay, which can be read here, is an ambitious piece of writing which ranges from her life at school to her imagined future career, and describes how Laude San Pedro has helped to make her who she is today: “What’s behind the gates of Laude? A whole unexplored world is waiting for me, and in that world there is a space for me to do something great.”
Ana Maria is not new to winning writing competitions; last year she won a poetry competition organised by the SUR newspaper. Ms Lopez, Head of the school, said “We’re all extremely pleased for Ana Maria. She is one of a number of young writing talents that we have in the secondary school. I’m sure she’ll have an amazing time in Mexico.”
Mr Barnett, Head of English, said, “We are so proud of Ana Maria. Her essay was so well structured and original in its style,” before adding, “the quality of the submissions was very high, and it could not have been a easy decision to choose a winner. We were delighted with the range of approaches and styles in the entries we received.”
