26th January 16
Since returning to school after the Christmas holiday, students in Years 5-12 have been completing endurance runs in their PE lessons. For some, it is an opportunity to evaluate and improve their current levels of fitness, whilst for others it provides an opportunity to prepare for the inter-schools cross country championships.
Some of our students took their running to the next level by entering the San Pedro de Alcántara Cross Country race organised by the sports department of the Marbella town hall in collaboration with San Pedro Athletics Club. The race was held on Sunday 24th January, and attracted competitors from all over Andalucia. A particular mention must go to:
Javier Cabeza Mora and Samuel Montenegro Aguilar from Year 6 who finished 8th and 10th respectively in out of a field of 60 runners in their category over a distance of 2km. Samuel, running his first competitive race was the only runner in the top 20 not affiliated with an athletics club, well done Samuel!
Anastasia Vostroknutova and Alexandra Shevchenko from Year 9 finished 4th and 10th respectively over a distance of 3km.
Well done to all those who took part, and we look forward to more success in the inter-schools cross country competition.
